What it does
When a hospital hands you a CD or a download link with your scan, what you get is rarely a picture you can open. It is a folder of DICOM files — the format medical imaging equipment uses — and a normal computer has no idea what to do with them.
These tools solve exactly that. You can open your images, turn them into ordinary pictures, look at what is written inside the file, check whether it is valid and strip out the personal details before you share it with anyone.
All of them run entirely inside your browser. Your files are never uploaded, so there is no waiting, no account and nothing left behind on a server.

Hospitals often supply a viewer that only runs on Windows, or none at all. The viewer here opens the same files with nothing to install.
You need to send an image to someone
A second opinion, an insurer or a specialist abroad often just needs a picture. Convert the relevant slice and send that instead of gigabytes of DICOM.
You are sharing a study for research or teaching
The anonymiser removes the identifying metadata so a study can be used as an example without exposing a real person.
Privacy and security
Your files never leave your device. Everything runs inside your browser using JavaScript — there is no upload, no server copy and no queue.
Because nothing is uploaded, there is nothing for us to store or delete. Closing the tab removes the files from memory.
We never put file names, patient identifiers or metadata values into analytics or logs. Product events only count how many files were opened.
If you later choose the paid AI explanation, that is a separate, explicit step: you decide which files to attach and nothing is sent until you confirm.

What is a DICOM file?
DICOM is the standard format for medical images. A DICOM file holds the picture itself plus a large amount of structured information around it: which scanner produced it, the settings used, which study and series it belongs to, and normally the patient’s details as well.
What is a DCM file?
A .dcm file is a DICOM file. The extension is just a convention — plenty of DICOM files have no extension at all, which is why these tools accept files regardless of what they are called.
Can I open DICOM files without installing software?
Yes. Every tool on this page runs in the browser you already have. There is nothing to download and nothing to install, on any operating system.
Why does my DICOM study contain hundreds of files?
A CT or MRI scan takes many thin slices through the body, and each slice is normally saved as its own file. A single study can easily contain several hundred. That is why these tools let you open a whole ZIP at once and step through the images.
Is it safe to upload a DICOM file here?
Nothing is uploaded. The tools read your file with JavaScript inside your own browser, so the data never crosses the network. If you later choose the paid AI explanation, that is a separate step you have to confirm.
Can a DICOM file contain personal data?
Almost always. Patient name, identifier, date of birth, the hospital, the referring doctor and the exact dates are usually stored in the metadata. Use the metadata viewer to see what is in yours, and the anonymiser to remove it.
What is the difference between DICOM and JPG?
A JPG is only a picture. A DICOM file also carries the measured values behind the picture, the scanner settings and the study structure, which is what lets software apply the correct window and contrast. Converting to JPG throws all of that away — useful for sharing, not a replacement for the original.
Can I view MRI or CT scans online?
Yes, as long as the images use a compression the browser can read. Uncompressed DICOM, RLE and JPEG baseline all work. If your file uses JPEG 2000 or JPEG Lossless, the viewer will tell you rather than silently fail.
